Episode 6

Chicago Trout

A few years ago we were in the Chicago harbor looking for perch, and when that didn’t happen; we tried the gaps for Lake Trout, and we’re sure glad we happened upon this bite.  We’ve been back a few times, and every time we’re the only boat in the harbor. 

On this trip, we find the fish right away, and are spot-locked for the entire time. Using Kalin’s Google-Eye Swim Jig and Jerk minnows is most effective, but dropping down a blade bait works too.  We get on such an amazing bite, within 3 hours our arms are tired, and we’re heading back to shore.

Episode 7

Running for Flags in Waukesha County

Location: Waukesha County, Wisconsin

The is is just barely there in southern Wisconsin, but it’s just enough that we feel comfortable heading out onto small bays to jig for panfish, and set some Beaver Dam’s for pike.  We have caught good-sized beautiful bluegills in this spot in the past, but for some reason the flags were flying constantly while we were there for this show.  There weren't any mega pike caught, but the build quality of what we did catch shows that there will be some monsters in a few years. We were joined by Wes from Johnson Pump, Tom from Johnsonville, and Brian from Fleet Farm; as well as a great group of guys that helped with everything from resetting tip-ups, to grilling Johnsonvilles.

Perch and Pike on the Bay

With the mild winter that we’ve been having in the southern part of Wisconsin, we wondered if we would ever get a chance to get out on the ice with our buddy and guide Tim Maher.  He finally gave us a call, and said we can jig for perch, and watch the Beaver Dams for pike and walleye, which is just the perfect ice fishing combo.

Unbelievable Bluegill Bite

Our buddy Ryley in Northern Minnesota gave us a call, and told us that there is an awesome bluegill bite happening, and that we should make plans to head up as soon as we could.  We’re sure glad we did, and the lake we are on has historically had 11”+ gills swimming around, so there’s a definite possibility that a few of us could catch our personal best fish during this trip.
