It’s been a while since we’ve fished Hayward in the springtime, and it sure was nice to be back. Our guide is our good friend Pete Maina, Pete has lived in Hayward all his life, and knows the area very well having guided for a long time. Pete’s dad “Tex” guided this area for many years as well, so we are very confident that we will find fish.
It’s a great time of year to look for weeds, both old and new growth. Walleye, bass, pike, and crappie will hide in any vegetation they can find, so that is where we are concentrating our efforts. For walleyes & bass, the trusty Kalin’s Jerk Minnow or a Livingston crank bait. When we find crappies, we switch to the Crappie Scrub with a bobber.
