Episode 23
Ashland in the Rain

May had been a wet month, and this week up in Ashland, we saw a lot of rain.  We are up looking for bass on Chequamegon Bay, and brought along some friends in Jeff and Ray from Humminbird, and Dan from Amsoil

The rain had a pretty negative effect on the fishing, but once the rain stopped, it was like a light switch! With the sun eventually coming out at the tail end of the 2 days, we had a very strong finish, catching some beautiful bass.

Fishing with the Stars

This week we were honored to be included in the St. Germain Chamber of Commerce 1st Annual “Fishing with the Stars” tournament.  The anglers were battling for a chance to fish with John Gillespie, Rob Manthei, and Pete Maina aka: the stars.  Our 3 winners, Aiden, Landon, and Tom joined us for a day on the water on the beautiful northwoods Lakes of St. Germain.  Rob is a guide in the area, so he showed us the way, and we took turns getting all the the winners with each of the stars for some fishing.  While we tried for crappie, bass, and walleye, only the crappie wanted to bite - and we had one great time catching monster crappie.  Pete caught one on a crank bait, so you knew they were hungry!

For the last bit of the show, we headed out to Lake Winnebago with guide Matt Merten to see whats happening on the largest inland lake in Wisconsin. Unlorturnaly due to wind, we weren’t able to get out onto the lake, and instead had to stay on the rivers. The bite was a bit off because of the weather, but we still caught a mess of beautiful walleyes, and they are walleyes from some of the best water if you like to eat fish!

Fishing with my Buddies

 Every year a group of our friends get together for a buddy fishing trip.  We’ve been doing this trip for over 10 years, and always look forward to it.  This year we caught mostly walleye and bass with night crawlers and leeches.  We are working shorelines, looking for fallen trees and casting around them.  This is where the fish are hiding, and they can’t resist the live bait.  As usual, John is using Kalin’s plastics, and specifically is catching a lot of fish on the 4” Jerk Minnow.
