Episode 30
Jigging Coho on Lake Michigan
Show Date: July 27, 2024
Location: Lake Michigan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Guide: Connor Bowen [608-921-9690]
This week was one of the most exciting and enjoyable fishing trips I have ever experienced, and it just happens to be a few miles from home.
We’re out in the Milwaukee harbor for a special bite that doesn't happen every year - jigging for coho salmon. We’re out with Capt. Vince Moldenhauer, who you may know as a Mississippi River guide. Vince grew up along the shores of Lake Michigan, and captained boats before making the move to the other side of the state.
The bite is vertical jigging or casting a spoon, like a Kastmaster or Moonshine spoon, and using the sonar to find the schools of baitfish. You can further enhance your fishing experience if you have a forward facing sonar, like the Humminbird Mega Live, to precisely get your lure just under the school of bait where the fish are feeding.
We’re also joined by two more captains later in the day, Capt. Caleb Zorn, and Capt. Connor Bowen; as well as long-time friend and fishing buddy Henry Abbott.
