Mississippi Perch

Vince and Ryan of Great River Outdoors put us on the perch this week, and all the while knowing that we’ll be able to get on the ice to do it again very soon. 

Out on open water in our Recon, we’re using bobbers or drop-shots with live bait. The bite is a little slow until the sun comes out, and then it seems like someone always has a fish on!

What a fun trip. We’re sure to see Vince very soon on the ice!

Night River Walleyes

It’s a tradition every year to get out on the Fox River and chase jumbo walleyes after dark. Some years the weather has been miserable, and others like this year are pretty nice. The reason that we love this bite is that you can easily catch the biggest walleyes of your life during this bite, because all of these fish are packing on the pounds to get ready for winter. 


So if the launches aren’t frozen in, and you can stand the cold, this bite can be absolutely incredible.

First Ice on the Mississippi Backwaters

We’re on a very unique adventure in the backwaters of the Mississippi River out of La Crosse Wisconsin.  We were just out with Vince catching perch on open water, and he told us we’d be on the ice very soon after, and now is the time. It’s very early ice, and the only way to get to the spots is using an airboat.  The airboat allows us to get safely to good ice, and enjoy this phenomenal panfish bite. 

We catch perch, bluegills, and crappies; all in one area! What a fun trip!

Lower Bay Ice Fishing

Pro guide Tim Maher has been itching to get out on the ice, and right now there's not a lot to choose from. However, he and his crew were able to put us on a wonderful jigging and tip-down bite for perch, and a few bonus whitefish.
