Episode 14

Winter in April

Show Date: April 6, 2024

Location: Oconto County, Wisconsin

Guide: Tim Maher [(920) 604-4169]

We were very excited to be able to get out on the water in the river for the spring walleye run. There were high winds during our outing, so guide Tim Maher offered to take us down the river in his fishing raft. We were able to stay out of the wind for the most part, and got more than a few really nice walleyes, but the bite was pretty tough most of the morning. The weather got increasingly bad in the afternoon. We decided to regroup, and try something different the next day, but it just wasn’t our day, and we ended up empty handed the second day.

As we have always said, we can’t always choose the days, and sometimes the bite is just not happening. Hopefully we have better luck next week. Thanks so much to Tim for his amazing effort, we truly appreciate it.

Pontoon Trip on the River

Show Date: April 13, 2024

Location: Wisconsin River, Stevens Point, Wisconsin

Guide: Taps and Tackle Co. [715-341-7400 | tapsandtackleco.com]

It’s always a great time getting out on the Taps & Tackle fishing pontoon on the Wisconsin River!  What we love about the river is the surprise and randomness of what we can catch. Guides Matt and Jozef are excellent hosts, and are always working to get us on fish, all while moving from spot to spot in the comfort of their covered pontoon boat.

Episode 16

Post Spawn Walleyes

Show Date: April 20,, 2024

Location: Bay of Green Bay, Oconto, Wisconsin

Guide: Brett Jolly [715-581-5678 | captainjollycharters.com]

Captain Brett Jolly emphasizes that the post-spawn walleye bite on the Bay of Green Bay is an often underestimated opportunity that eludes many anglers focused solely on pre-spawn catches. According to Brett, these walleye exhibit heightened aggression post-spawn as they voraciously feed. While the hair jig has been a standout lure in recent years, both plastics and hard baits have proven effective in attracting these fish.

Episode 17

Spring on the Mississippi

Show Date: April 27, 2024

Location: Mississippi River, Red Wing, Minnesota

Guide: Jeremiah Luhmann [651-380-7278 | luhmannsriverguiding.com]

We find ourselves on the Mississippi River in Red Wing Minnesota on a cool, cloudy, and windy day for our trip with Capt. Jeremiah Luhmann. Jeremiah tells us that this is just the start of the walleye and sauger bite, which will continue throughout the summer.  We find the most success using a dubuque rig with a hair jig, and a plastic on the trailer hook.  We have 2 guests from Johnson Pump, Wes and Jeff, who love to eat walleye; and these fast-growing fish are great eating.
